Two holiday apartments with open mountain views on Riederalp

Situated in the western part of car-free Riederalp, surrounded by traditional chalets and overlooking the Valais Alps, Chalet Bienna enjoys a peaceful and sunny position on Riedermornweg in the Kühmatten area. The Ried-Mörel–Riederalp West cable-car station can be reached in approximately ten minutes on foot, providing convenient access to restaurants, shops and the mountain lifts of the Aletsch Arena. At the same time, the alpine landscape begins almost directly outside the property, with skiing in winter and an extensive network of hiking and biking trails during summer.

Built in 1963, the detached chalet occupies a plot of approximately 263 m² and features traditional Valais architecture, combining a masonry lower level with timber construction above. With two independently accessible holiday apartments and approximately 80 m² of total net living space, the property offers considerable flexibility – whether used by a larger family, by two generations or as a combination of private use and holiday rentals.

Upper apartment

The upper 3½-room apartment offers approximately 48 m² of net living space and is entered from the rear of the chalet. A central hallway connects the different rooms.

The renovated bathroom includes a shower, washbasin and toilet, with the first bedroom located directly beside it. The generously sized kitchen provides ample workspace and storage and features an opening towards the living room. This creates a pleasant connection between cooking and living and gives the apartment a sociable atmosphere.

The living room forms the heart of the apartment and provides access to the second bedroom and the balcony. From here, the elevated position of Chalet Bienna becomes particularly apparent, with views across Riederalp West towards the surrounding Valais mountains.

A folding staircase from the hallway leads to the attic, providing additional storage space.

At the rear of the chalet, directly beside the entrance, a further terrace creates a sheltered outdoor area that particularly benefits from the evening sun.

Lower apartment

An exterior staircase leads towards the lower 1½-room apartment. Halfway down is a natural cellar offering generous storage space and housing the building services. Continuing down the stairs leads to the terrace of the lower apartment, which provides another spacious outdoor area with attractive mountain views.

Inside, the apartment has a compact and practical layout. The combined living, dining and kitchen area forms the central space and provides access to the internal bedroom and the bathroom with shower. An additional sleeping area is located in a separate room directly adjoining the chalet.

This makes the lower apartment suitable for guests or family members, while also offering the possibility of independent holiday rental.

Outdoor space

One of Chalet Bienna’s distinguishing features is its private outdoor space. The property is enclosed by a fence and offers several green areas and places to sit around the chalet. Together with the balcony and terraces, this creates different places to enjoy the sun and mountain scenery throughout the day.

Thanks to the sloping terrain, both residential levels have a strong connection with the outdoors, while the elevated position provides open views across the surrounding chalets and mountain landscape.

Riederalp

Riederalp forms part of the Aletsch Arena and occupies a sunny plateau high above the Rhône Valley. The car-free mountain village is an established year-round destination, offering access to the Aletsch Arena ski area in winter and an extensive network of hiking and mountain-bike trails during summer. The local golf course provides an additional attraction during the warmer months.

The surrounding landscape also provides access towards the Great Aletsch Glacier and Aletsch Forest. This combination of a car-free village environment, mountain scenery and established tourist infrastructure makes Riederalp particularly attractive for holiday-home ownership.

Chalet Bienna offers something increasingly difficult to find on Riederalp: a detached chalet with its own plot, two separate apartments and extensive private outdoor space. This makes it suitable both as a family holiday home and for a combination of private use and holiday rental.
